Children and young people at the heart of neglect prevention strategy
Rochdale Borough Safeguarding Children Partnership (RBSCP) have a neglect strategy and tools to help prevent and reduce the impact of neglect in the borough by identifying signs early.
The approach centres on four key questions for professionals: what has been identified, which of the child’s needs are not being met, why are some needs not being met, and what could help ensure the needs of the child are met?
The questions are designed to understand what neglect looks like and which of the child’s needs are not being fully met by their parent or carer.
The approach puts the child’s needs and experiences front and centre. At each stage, the whole family’s views and wishes are also considered.
The strategy and tools allow professionals, from all agencies, to work together and determine the short and long term impacts for the child or young person and allow for rapid, early identification of and response to neglect.
