Safeguarding is everyone’s business as week of action returns

Rochdale’s annual Safeguarding Adults Week returns with the theme of the week being self-neglect.

Running from 21-27 November 2022, the focus will be on sharing key safeguarding information for practitioners working with vulnerable adults and residents across the borough of Rochdale.

The week will provide a key opportunity for the public and practitioners to find out more about the different types of self-neglect, such as hoarding and lack of self-care and to recognise the signs that someone might need help and support.

Everyone will be reminded of the safeguarding adults board’s role, in helping to safeguard and promote the welfare of all adults with care and support needs through the multi-agency procedures and policies it has in place for practitioners, volunteers, services and partner agencies in the borough.

Amanda Clarke, the independent chair of Rochdale Borough Safeguarding Adults Board, said: “It’s always important to remind people that safeguarding is our collective responsibility and really is everyone’s business. This year’s theme of self-neglect is a key priority for us all in Rochdale as self-neglect continues to be the most prevalent theme of recent Safeguarding Adults Reviews undertaken by the board.  If anyone has any safeguarding concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with adult care services for assistance and advice.”

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, cabinet member for adult care, said: “As always, this is an important event to showcase the importance of safeguarding and that it is everyone’s business. The week will help raise awareness around the serious issue of self-neglect, building on our range of partnership work throughout the year to protect and support vulnerable adults in the borough. I am sure it will be another successful, interesting and informative Safeguarding Adults Week.”
