Child Sexual Abuse
This course provides an overview of key issues for practitioners in Child Sexual Abuse and with children and young people who display sexually harmful behaviour.
Objectives and outcomes:
- To provide historical context & discuss definitions and prevalence of Child Sexual Abuse
- To outline relevant legislation
- To identify the signs/indicators/short/long term impact of abuse
- To consider the impact of media coverage of sexual abuse
- To raise awareness of research & learning from SCRs
- To consider implications for practice
- To provide an opportunity for multi- agency networking
By the end of the course you will :
- Recognise vulnerabilities and risk indicators
- Describe the barriers to children disclosing abuse
- Have considered own values/assumptions & potential blind spots
- Understand your role/duty to protect children from sexual abuse
- Know what to do if you have concerns about a child/young person
